Photo 1727. Cyprus in November and this is Paphos in Western Cyprus. Out of 14 days we experienced 11 days of sunshine with cloudless skies. The other three days were stormy and this sea (This is the Mediterranean remember) was typical of that three day period. From the coastal path this is a shot back toward Paphos harbour. This particular shot, taken in 2002, in tiff format has a file size of 29.3 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. | Photo 1728. A shot from the successful licentiate distinction application
to the Royal Photographic Society 2003. On the coast at Paphos on Cyprus
is the 'Mosaic Area' and this shot is through an arch at the Mosaic Area,
back toward the new town. This particular shot, taken in 2002, in tiff format
has a file size of 80 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this

Photo 1729. Paphos on Cyprus in the 'Mosaic Area'. Discovered during
the 2nd World War, while digging air raid shelters, these mosaics cover a
large area and more are being found all the time. Being the floors of Roman
villas some of the more important areas of mosaic are now indoors having
had buildings built over them to protect them. other areas are outside and
lower than ground level. So that you get the best view they have built timber
walkways at high level so that the mosaics can be looked down on. This particular
shot, taken in 2002, in tiff format has a file size of 80 Mb. Print sizes

| Photo 1730. All as described above. Incidentally the area took all morning
to get around and the entrance fee was something ridiculously low like
£1.50 or $3US. This particular shot, taken in 2002, in tiff format has
a file size of 80 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page.

Photo 1731. The Akamas Peninsula on Cyprus and this is as far as you can get when travelling West without leaving the island. A walking guide filled us in with all the details and views, pointing out 900mm long lizards and Spiral Orchids etc. He explained that the Akamas is 'sort of' protected. There is supposed to be a half agreement that no building take place in the area but government officials own land here and the agreement is under threat. The most common article on the Akamas is the spent shotgun cartridge so the animal and bird life is definitely NOT protected. If you travel to Cyprus then - walk The Akamas Peninsula before it goes. This particular shot, taken in 2002, in tiff format has a file size of 28.5 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. | Photo 1732. See above Photo 1731 for comments on the Akamas Peninsula. While walking this area a highpoint revealed itself. Some of the party scrambled up others thought it too hot and waited for us. The rewarding view was worth it with almost vertical drops to the sea. This particular shot, taken in 2002, in tiff format has a file size of 25.1 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. Photo 1741. It's mentioned in all the guide books but in case you miss it there is a daily ritual in Paphos to walk down to the harbour and then travel West for a couple of hundred metres to this open spot. Here you will find many people staring into the West, watching the sun descend into the sea. There is something primitive about this ritual, nobody is chanting or singing but you can fully understand the ancients revering the sun and making it a God, praying that it will return the following day.
