Photo 1701. Vathi is the capital of Ithaka and the place where most of
the holiday accommodation can be found. From here you can hire small motorboats
to travel up the coast to Kioni and that is where this shot was taken. Kioni
is very nautical and is a safe haven for yachts. This shot is not of a yacht
or other boat but was taken looking up to a balcony of a building within
this pretty coastal village. The original, in tiff format, has a file size
of 70 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page with

| Photo 1702. From Vathi, the capital and main port of Ithaka in the Greek Ionian Islands, you can easily book your own 'round the island trip' by boat. Visiting the main beauty spots on Ithaka and also a stop at the lovely fishing village of Fiskardo on Kefalonia. On the way back around the southern part of Ithaka, near Stene Balouga, an Italian on our boat shouted "Dolphino" and we spent the next half an hour chasing the Dolphins - or were they chasing us. This does not happen on every trip and friends of ours drew a blank a couple of days later but still enjoyed the trip. This dolphin stayed close to the boat but also stayed underwater. This particular shot, taken in 2001, in tiff format has a file size of 29.5 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. Photo 1703. Vathi, the capital and main port of Ithaka in the Greek Ionian Islands, has built up within a large inlet. The coastline is therefore almost circular and this shot of a typical Ithakan fishing boat is taken from one side of the coast while, walking to the left of this photo, you would travel around the coast to the main town, seen in the background. This particular shot, taken in 2001, in tiff format has a file size of 29.6 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. | Photo 1704. What grabbed my attention with this boat in Vathi harbour
on Ithaka in the Greek Ionian Islands, was the fading and peeled paintwork.
This is most obviously a working boat and you have to ask the question -
is fishing so good that he doesn't have time to repaint the boat? Is fishing
so bad that he can't afford to paint the boat? Does he look at the boat and
think that despite the peeled paintwork the boat is still bright, colourful
and cheerful? This particular shot, taken in 2001. The original, in tiff
format, has a file size of 70 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom

| Photo 1892 So has anyone got any idea what this is. Basically this is a tube which passes sea water, powered by what look like flatfish wings that ripple like a sine wave !! Seen in Vathi Harbour on the island of Ithaka, all we could get out of the locals was that at 750mm it was a baby one, a long time ago they used to eat them, but even as a soup it was difficult to negotiate the hundreds of small bones. This particular shot, taken in 2001, in tiff format has a file size of 23.4 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page.
