Photo 1817. A shot from the successful licentiate distinction application to the Royal Photographic Society 2003. This shows how steep island villages are built on many levels. The timber balcony structure, top right, is typical of older Skopelos and would, at one time, housed the outside toilet !. This particular shot, taken on the island of Skopelos, Greece, in 1999, in tiff format has a file size of 29.4 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. Photo Libraries may take into their library database, on agreement, on a 50% basis, in either tiff file or 35mm slide format.
Photo 1664. A shot from the successful licentiate distinction application to the Royal Photographic Society 2003. A taverna that we had visited the night before had colourful chairs and I returned at dawn to take some photos. This is at the high point of Skopelos Town on the island of Skopelos in the Greek Sporades group of islands. The kitten (they are all well fed on this island) seems to be asking for another plate of octopus and another glass of ouzo. The original, in tiff format, has a file size of  70 Mb. Photo 1659. A shot from the successful licentiate distinction application to the Royal Photographic Society 2003. This lone fishing boat, captured in the harbour at Skopelos Town on the island of Skopelos in the Greek Sporades group of islands, is reflecting the golden light of dawn. It hangs in my conservatory and prints beautifully at A3. The original, in tiff format, has a file size of  70 Mb. Photo 1747. Typical of the coastline of Skopelos in the Sporades group of Greek islands is this pine tree cover, reaching right down to the rocky coast before slipping into the sea. You get the feeling that if the sea didn't splash the visible rocks and there was still a bit of soil there, that the pines would grow right down to the tide line. This particular shot, taken in 1999, in tiff format has a file size of 29.2 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. Photo Libraries may take into their library database, on agreement, on a 50% basis, in either tiff file or 35mm slide format.
Photo 1645. One feature of Greece, in the summer, is the amount of flowers where the ground is well watered by hotel owners and house owners. One of my favourites is the Hibiscus and this example, in pink is a treasure. This particular shot, taken in 1999 on the island of Skopelos in the Sporades group of islands, in tiff format has a file size of  30.0 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. Photo Libraries may take into their library database, on agreement, on a 50% basis, in either tiff file or 35mm slide format.
Photo 1646. In times past, travel between the many Greek islands was by slow car ferry. Since the introduction of the hydrofoil, or Flying Dolphins, travel is much quicker and more comfortable. The inevitable Greek "I want to get on first" type queues still exist however. This hydrofoil arrived Daily on the island of Skopelos in the Sporades group of islands and, on one occasion, we took this boat to the mainland for an onward bus journey to Athens. This particular shot, taken in 1999, in tiff format has a file size of 27.9 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. Photo Libraries may take into their library database, on agreement, on a 50% basis, in either tiff file or 35mm slide format.
Photo 1648. One of the beauties of Skopelos is to hire a car and explore the northern beaches near Linnonari. If you find a beach and there is one person there, you just drive on to the next one and call it your own. Each comes with crystal clear water which is on the warm side during July. This particular shot, taken in 1999, in tiff format has a file size of 29.3 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. Photo Libraries may take into their library database, on agreement, on a 50% basis, in either tiff file or 35mm slide format.
Photo 1649. Skopelos, like Skiathos, was seriously affected by the great earthquake of 1953. Conversation inevitably comes around to 1953 when most of the islanders left for English speaking countries, Australia, canada, America, etc and some later returned a good deal richer. English, therefore is spoken widely on the island. Some towns and villages were never repopulated and this is a shot of one called Klima. With the boom in tourism, even these deserted villages are now being reclaimed and restored - there was evidence of renewal as we walked through this village. This particular shot, taken in 1999, in tiff format has a file size of 28.9 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. Photo Libraries may take into their library database, on agreement, on a 50% basis, in either tiff file or 35mm slide format.
Photo 1650. General explanation see photo 1649. This shot shows the regeneration of the earthquake affected village with one building still unreclaimed, or at least nobody has started to rebuild it. As you can see, electricity has now been supplied to the area. This particular shot, taken in 1999, in tiff format has a file size of 29.2 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. Photo Libraries may take into their library database, on agreement, on a 50% basis, in either tiff file or 35mm slide format.
Photo 1652. The roofs of the buildings of the old part of Skopelos Town, on the island of Skopelos in the Sporades group of islands, are made of slate as can be seen in the closest roof. The newer part of the town has been tastefully built with all buildings being in white with the orange / red roof tiles as shown. This particular shot, taken in 1999. The original, in tiff format, has a file size of 70 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page with regard to one off purchases for your own use. Photo 1653. Fishing is still an important business on the island of Skopelos in the Sporades group of islands, at the level shown in this photograph. Contrast is made between the close up fishing boats and, behind them, the launches of the rich holidaymakers. Behind all the harbour activity is the town of Skopolos with the church, half way up the hill, on the right. This particular shot, taken in 1999. The original, in tiff format, has a file size of 70 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page with regard to one off purchases for your own use. Photo 1655. Skopelos Town on the island of Skopelos in the Sporades group of islands, is viewed from the other side of the harbour. The way the town nestles into the hillside is shown along with the fact that the nearby countryside is thick with pine trees. This particular shot, taken in 1999, in tiff format has a file size of 29.6 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. Photo Libraries may take into their library database, on agreement, on a 50% basis, in either tiff file or 35mm slide format.
Photo 1656. All the buildings in Skopelos Town on the island of Skopelos in the Sporades group of islands are painted white, in the interests of beauty and in the interest of light reflection rather than heat absorption. What better backdrop than this for growing brightly coloured flowering shrubs and bushes in pinks, reds, purples etc. This particular shot, taken in 1999, in tiff format has a file size of 29.6 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. Photo Libraries may take into their library database, on agreement, on a 50% basis, in either tiff file or 35mm slide format.
Photo 1665. Skopelos in the Greek Sporades group of islands, was a place from which the locals travelled to far off lands. On returning it was customary to bring fine crockery from the place visited and some was given to the Church to give thanks for a safe passage. Here we see the display of plates given to the church and displayed by them as external decoration. This particular shot, taken in 1999, in tiff format has a file size of 29.4 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page. Photo Libraries may take into their library database, on agreement, on a 50% basis, in either tiff file or 35mm slide format.
Photo 1666. The fine blues of the boats reflected in the fine blues of the sea. Fishing is still an important business on the island of Skopelos in the Sporades group of islands, at the level shown in this photograph. Contrast is made between the close up fishing boats and, behind them, the launches of the rich holidaymakers. This particular shot, taken in 1999. Photo 1667. The streets of Skopelos town, in the Greek Sporades group of islands, wind around and there is a surprise around every corner. This lady, selling wicker baskets, walked the town before jumping into the family van and moving on to the next town. This particular shot, taken in 1999. Photo 1851. Part of the successful licentiate distinction application to the Royal Photographic Society in 2003. The traditional terracotta Greek pot, here cast into a step and painted, when new, in the white colours of the house and steps. The pealing paint has left a beautiful pattern and, where the terracotta looks rough, the surface has spalled due to water penetration and frost - again leaving a beautiful pattern. This particular shot, taken on the island of Skopelos, Greece, in 1999, in tiff format has a file size of 29.2 Mb. Print sizes and costs are at the bottom of this page.
